History
In 1998 Rabbi Mendy and Chaya Harlig arrived in Henderson to open the doors of Chabad of Green Valley. They were received with open arms by the local Jewish community and got busy developing a new shul. The shul began modestly, in the living room of their home, offering religious services, holiday celebrations and classes.
In 2002, Chabad of Green Valley moved into its current quarters, a 2700 square foot storefront at 10870 S. Eastern Ave. This move enabled the center to enhance its existing services and expand by developing a wide variety of new programs to benefit the community.
In 2015, Chabad of Green Valley shifted their name to include Henderson, becoming Chabad of Green Valley/Henderson. They purchased a 1.9 acre parcel on Carnegie St., just north of Horizon Ridge Pkwy to be the new location of the Chabad Jewish Community Center.
In 2018, Chabad of Green Valley/Henderson moved to a temporary modular building at 524 Carnegie, the site of the new Chabad of Henderson Jewish Community Center. This temporary structure will serve as a temporary home as the new building is constructed.
In 2019, Chabad of Green Valley/Henderson officially became Chabad of Henderson to better reflect the area it serves, which is the entire community of Henderson, NV and beyond.
In 2020, Chabad of Henderson began and completed stage 1 of the building of the Mikvah - the first Mikvah in Henderson and the strong step in setting roots in the new location of the future Chabad of Henderson Jewish Community Center.
Today, Chabad of Henderson offers a full schedule of prayer services, Shabbatons, adult education and women's events. The Hebrew school offers a fun, interactive educational program for grades K - 6. And throughout the year, there are religious services, holiday celebrations, classes and special lectures. Rabbi Mendy and Rebbetzin Chaya provide an array of social services, including hospital, nursing home and prison visitations, crisis counseling, Kosher supervision, and help to the needy. Rabbi Mendy is proud to be a "ride along" chaplain with Las Vegas, Metro.
